Tears Hanging on the Edge

While chatting with Ringo Chef and GM Ryan Aberle, he mentioned that he was saddened and shocked by Grand Cafe Chef Jon Radle’s death. I had heard about his death, but didn’t know the circumstances. Needless to say, I was stunned to learn that the talented chef took his own life.

I’ve been melancholy as of late as it’s been on my mind that it’s coming on two years that my friend, Christopher, decided that life was too hard to bear.

When he passed, I remember a number of people angrily saying how selfish it was of him to take his own life.

But all I could quietly say is depression and mental illness is no different than any other disease. I know Christopher tried desperately to cure his disease, but, unfortunately, couldn’t find a cure soon enough.

As I was reading Mecca’s touching piece in Metro Magazine about Chef Radle, there was a lump in my throat and tears gathering as I could only imagine what his family and friends are going through. Left behind with questions left unanswered, but perhaps with the jolting reminder that the only thing that really matters in life are the people we loved and who loved us back.

Condolences to all who knew and loved Jon.
