Honor at Vieux Carre

Renovating the Artists’ Quarters space in St. Paul has been a much bigger undertaking than one would think given the size of the space.  However, the last several months have been a labor of love for the owners and manager, Martina Priadka, creating Vieux Carre.  Although the kitchen is small, it looks like it could produce some food that will pack a culinary punch!

As Martina was working on her wine menu one day, I asked who her main wine suppliers were.  She mentioned she was excited that the wine list would be a departure from Vieux Carre’s older sister, The Dakota.  In particular she expressed excitement over a wine she put on the menu from the Honor Winery.

It’s a winery that distributes wine with a portion of the proceeds from each bottle of wine sold going to families of military men and women who have either lost their lives or been severely injured.  It really is a beautiful sentiment, communicated through the simple beauty of the bottle.

Vieux Carre opens its doors next week.  Be sure to sample some Honor Wine.

Crafting the Beer

It’s quite apparent that this craft beer “trend” is here to stay!

The taprooms have created a very fun environment to host a corporate event or social gathering, such as a rehearsal dinner. Just know going into it, due to liquor laws, liquor cannot be served on premise (although if some people have their way, this will be overturned).

One of my favorite taprooms is 612Brew. Although I’m not much of a beer drinker, it is a nice environment to kick back, relax and chill with friends in the taproom. And, of course, the event planner in me loves their private room for events called The Cellar at Six One Two. Throw a gathering with great food, unique beer and a tour of the taproom and you have fixings for a great event!

Brilliant Birch

Of course being from a rural area where birch covered our wooded land, these birch straws just struck my fancy.

These straws with a birch design on them are perfect for rustic and/or northwoods events and at $8.95 for a pack of 144 from CB2, this detail is brilliant without breaking the bank!  Oh, and not to mention they are very environmentally friendly!
