Spring is in the Air!

Spring was definitely in the air at the Walker Art Center for this intimate corporate event.  The apple blossoms really did give a sense of the warm weather coming upon us.

Love to Generation Photography for the beautiful images and thanks to Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry, Apres Party & Tent Rental, Instant Request (lighting), D’Amico Catering and the Walker Art Center for helping make this beautiful event.

He’s Visual, You’re Visual, I’m Visual, We’re All Visual

Yesterday I was talking to a bride about her wedding. She and her fiance were looking at a lot of venues and some of them were so drastically different from one another. One thing she brought up was that a number of the venues didn’t have very many images to show different set-ups and color schemes, as well as a decor ideas.

As a professional, I can generally visualize design concepts in my head when I look at a room. But, I can imagine how challenging it would be for someone planning the wedding of their dreams for the first time. Aided with Style Boards that I sent her, she was able to get a much better sense of the venues and fell in love with two in particular.

I think International Market Square is a perfect example of a venue that is hard to visualize set-up for a wedding. Due to the extremely high ceilings and the different levels, putting it all together in your head may be challenging.

It is much easier to get a sense of a space with the Style Boards. This example of a ceremony and reception shot by Staja Studios really helps couples imagine the possibilities of the International Market Square (which happens to be one of the venues the couple is considering). At the same time, couples get a sense of a photographer’s work. Some venues are harder to shoot than others and you can definitely tell the experience and talent through the images.

Although we really love for you to take the time to experience the Style Stations for yourself (feedback is that it is a fun, efficient and extremely helfpul tool), you can always call or email us to ask us to send you Style Boards based on your search criteria.

Blue Skies and Green Grass

I love the combination of blue and green in the work by Flora Studio. Maybe because it is reminding me of summer.

The bridal bouquet, boutonniere and flower girl’s kissing ball are so fresh and lively with green cymbidium orchids and the blue hydrangea bridesmaid bouquets are so soothingly beautiful. The centerpieces are a perfect blend of color and texture. Flora, known for their technical perfection, always has a gorgeous style.

25 Years of Wedded Bliss is Definitely Worth Celebrating!

As I was organizing disks of images, I ran across a disk of a 25th Wedding Anniversary Party I did back in 2006. It seems eons ago, but it was still one of my favorite events (despite getting into a pretty serious car accident four hours before the event started).

An event planner from Washington D.C. was a guest at the event. She had been following my career after discovering me in an InStyle Weddings magazine. One of the guests introduced us upon hearing her say “This looks like an event The Style Laboratory would do.” Imagine her surprise to discover that, in fact, the event was designed by The Style Laboratory.

Summer, who now owns Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry, did the flowers when she was at Stems & Vines.

Red Tulip Wheat Grass Centerpiece
These red tulips “planted” in wheat grass make me smile. It was a spring day, similar to today…a little overcast, a little rainy, a little chilly.

Red Carnation Topiary and Lime Centerpiece

Creating a dramatic, contemporary centerpiece can be difficult if set in a traditional setting. But this centerpiece truly melded the contemporary and traditional in a seemless way.

Lime Green and Black Cake from Gateaux
Robin from Gateaux admitted to me after the party that she thought I was nuts upon receiving the lime green swatch I wanted her to match. She said the green cake was absolutely hideous at first, but that the dots and circles really did tame the green. I loved it. So did the client.
