White Winter Wedding

This lovely snowy winter we are having reminds me of a wedding we did last winter.  Instead of fighting the white snow and ice, I suggested that we integrate it into the design.

White on white on white.

The bride and groom were the sweetest couple, obviously madly in love, all captured by La vie Photography.

They decided on a brunch wedding reception at the beautiful Calhoun Beach Club, which meant a rather early morning set up for the ceremony!  And meant that makeup artist Sherry Fredkove had a very, very early morning!

I am obsessed with the clear glass risers we used from Linen Effects (to help emulate the ice outside) with the snow white falling flowers by Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry.

And then 45 minutes to flip the room from ceremony to brunch reception.  D’Amico Catering staff is always so fast!

And D’Amico Catering took the pattern from the Linen Effect’s table linen and applied it to the wedding cake.  Gorgeous!

Actually, Beauty is More Than Skin Deep

In the days that I designed and planned weddings on a regular basis (which as much as I’ve intended to, have not fully retired from yet), I discovered two of a wedding planners’ best friend.

An outstanding hair stylist and an outstanding make-up artist.

Now, this may sound like I’m exaggerating, but what I would tell you is the time the bride is getting ready for her big day sets the tone for rest of the day. If she is feeling relaxed and beautiful, she views the rest of the world as relaxed and beautiful.

I discovered this little trick about wedding planning when I started to work with Sherry Fredkove Makeup and Danielle Goulet Peterson, hair stylist. I’d worked with some other make-up artists and hair stylists, who, quite frankly, didn’t see the importance of relaxing the bride. After all, once hair and make-up are done, the artists don’t see how the rest of the day goes.

Both of these artists are unbelievably kind and committed to making the bride look her absolute best. I would hear, repeatedly, from my clients how they couldn’t believe how calming both of them are! And that really does make a wedding planner’s job so much easier.

Thank you to Laurie Schneider Photography for the images.

Here are some beauty tips for your wedding day:
* Limit your alcohol comsumption at the rehearsal dinner. Alcohol is dehydrating and that will reflect in your skin.
* Wear a buttoned up shirt when getting your hair and make-up done. You don’t want to have to pull a shirt over your head and ruin your hair and smear your make-up.
* Definitely make sure you have a trial run. During the trial run, try to have pictures taken so you have a reference. Also, during the trial run, make sure you speak up as to whether you want something changed or not. They want to make sure you get the right look, but they aren’t mind readers.
* As a reminder, wedding day hair and make-up is different than every day. These professionals are mindful of the photography needs of hair and makeup.

All In the Family

I had been working with Kate and Robert for several months for their May 1st wedding. Kate is part of an extended family that The Style Laboratory has been fortunate enough to help on several events and weddings.

To say her family is special would be like saying Google is a little search engine. Imagine my surprise to discover that Robert’s family is equally loving and gracious! I sure was a lucky wedding planner when Kate’s aunt walked into my office five years ago, to help her with Kate’s cousin’s wedding.

Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church was definitely alive with love and joy!

Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry did a gorgeous job with the flowers. Of course, with a setting like the Calhoun Beach Club and a beautiful wedding party, it certainly makes her job a little easier!

D’Amico Catering (who, by the way, totally rock my world!) made the comment that the guests were so good looking. It’s true, as the wedding party was certainly an indication of the attractiveness of the guests!

Sister got the guests singing “Amen” following her Blessing before dinner. She even did a few dance steps as she clapped to the singing. God was definitely in the house!

Congratulations Kate & Robert! I know that God, family and friends share your love and joy!

Thank you to Sally of La Vie Photography for the stunning photos. I know you loved this wedding as much as I did! And it definitely shows!
