White Winter Wedding

This lovely snowy winter we are having reminds me of a wedding we did last winter.  Instead of fighting the white snow and ice, I suggested that we integrate it into the design.

White on white on white.

The bride and groom were the sweetest couple, obviously madly in love, all captured by La vie Photography.

They decided on a brunch wedding reception at the beautiful Calhoun Beach Club, which meant a rather early morning set up for the ceremony!  And meant that makeup artist Sherry Fredkove had a very, very early morning!

I am obsessed with the clear glass risers we used from Linen Effects (to help emulate the ice outside) with the snow white falling flowers by Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry.

And then 45 minutes to flip the room from ceremony to brunch reception.  D’Amico Catering staff is always so fast!

And D’Amico Catering took the pattern from the Linen Effect’s table linen and applied it to the wedding cake.  Gorgeous!

The Gorgeousness That Was

Leaning toward contemporary design, I’ve always loved the Skyline Room at the Walker Art Center (in fact, The Style Laboratory did the very first wedding reception in that room).

When discussing the design of the wedding reception with Jeanine and Curt, we focused on how to “marry” the contemporary space with a nod to a Great Gatsby feel.  At the center of the vision was Jeanine’s stunning black wedding gown.

Cadence and Eli (what talented and passionate photographers) captured the images so beautifully!

Floral was designed and meticulously executed by Bastian*Skoog.  They integrated the black lace seamlessly with the very romantic florals and…

…the amazing custom bunting installation that served as a backdrop of the ceremony and later the band.

Break dancers did double duty as they provided some entertainment as guests awaited the start of the ceremony, as well as escorting the bride down the aisle.

Following the ceremony, guests were greeted by Cigarette Girls.

D’Amico Catering provided some yummy food (required, as the groom has been in the restaurant industry for most of his adult life) and Cocoa & Fig put together a breathtaking dessert table.  Pretty signage by MaeMae Paperie and rentals from Wallflower Event Rental.

Lip Smackin’ Good

It may have taken longer than the Twin Cities wanted, but it would appear that diners feel it was worth the wait.  It’s already challenging to get dinner reservations at the Smack Shack, situated in the North Loop neighborhood.

We had a fun time with the VIP party, as everyone knows that restaurant openings are my favorite events! Thank you to Erica Loeks for the images!

There are few things greater in life than fresh oysters and champagne, especially if it is Veuve Cliquot.  The chefs shucked the oysters and presented it on the massive ice sculpture from Ice Occasions.

The centerpiece of the restaurant is the large blue lobster tank, ensuring that the lobster live in pristine water.

My faves:  Continental Roll (warm lobster roll), Smack Burger, Shrimp Boil.  (oh, and save some room for yummy dessert)
